Calvert Studios is a design and craft company that has grown with the internet since the mid 90s. With about twenty years of experience, and through a few website changes, the company has learned to focus on markets that they can serve well, providing well-built original mascot costumes for schools and businesses at the lowest possible cost.
The craftsmen and women at Calvert Studios have been building unique costumes and props for a long time. This is a picture of Mark in 2002 on the set of a local production of "Little Shop of Horrors". (Mark explains that the list of people who could help the theater group build giant man-eating plants in La Feria, Texas was rather short.)
"Some of the first memories that I have are about building puppets, monsters and dinosaurs. Like a lot of creative kids, I watched some TV shows just because I admired the craft and artistry of the puppetry, and I started building puppets and "dummies" of my own. I ruined lots of socks! As I looked for pictures for the special projects section page for the new website, I found, surprise- lots of puppets, monsters, and dinosaurs. At least I have more talented help, and slightly better budgets!" He has a bigger audience, too, as the company's mascot costume work has now been featured on national television and in international promotions. As a young adult, he also studied marketing, (BA, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 1989) and worked as a marketing director in his own promotions business and for a large Blockbuster Video franchise. "I still enjoy being part of larger projects. One of the things that keeps me motivated is seeing how simple mascot program can really help almost all businesses, whether they are a Fortune 500, publicly traded company, or a local franchise. It's fun, and it's clearly effective".
